Brief History of Book

The publication and reading of book has been traced back to about 6000 years. The first books that were published were done on some clay made objects and shaped into flat bricks and are in column, having signs written on the clay.
The establishment of the papyrus about 398 B. C reduced the use of the clay brick for publication and this made the writing skill to be improved. The papyrus sheets were glued to each other to generate what is called scroll in different sizes and length.

The early books that were manufactured were hand copied and because of this, the books were expensive to buy. All these changed during the 1430s when a German printer, Gutenberg started trying some new ways to make the primitive mode of publication better. His experiments led to the Movable kind of book. Some evidence has shown and proved that the movable type of book was manufactured in china by a chinese man named Pi Ching, and claims has suggested that this happened long time before the birth of Gutenberg.
In the year 1454, Mazarin Bible was printed by Gutenberg. And this is the first book that is noted to be printed with the movable type. The oldest printed book is called ‘The Diamond Sutra’ that was manufactured in china in 868 AD. The Mazarine Bible spread all over the Europe. The first printed book is much like the hand copied versions of the book that were manufactured during the Middle Ages, and since then has passed through several modifications and development in paper, paper binding, printing, typography and publishing.
