First Noted Person called Kizito
Saint Kizito was born in the year 1872; he died on the 3rd June 1886. He was one of the youngest Martyrs of Uganda, the youngest Martyr to be killed by King Mwanga II of Buganda. The biological father of Kizito was Lukomera of the Lung-fish and Leopard clans and the mother called Wangabira was of the Civet Cat Clan. Because of a blood-pact that exist between the Lung-fish and Leopard Clans, and the assistance that was rendered by a member of the Lung-fish clan to Kiggwe of the Leopard clan, Nyika the son of Kiggwe adopted Kizito.
He was burned alive in the year 1886. On the 3rd June of the year 1886, at the Namugongo, the 31 young men and boys, of which Kizito was among them, were tied with the use of fibre thongs. They were tied and wrapped in matting; they were placed on the furnace. As the fire was burning, they were shouting in prayer and encouraging themselves. The last words from the voiceKizitowere, ‘Goodbye my friends, we are on our way’. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XV in the year 1920 and finally canonized a saint in the year 1964 by Pope Paul VI.
The feast of Saint Kizito is on the 3rd June.
